Who wants to watch the superbowl, when you can be photographing such a sweet babe. This is Ethan, he was a complete doll and such a happy baby.

Hi Tami,
I like your photos very much! What gear do you use? Are you a Canon or Nikon fiend? :-)
Good luck with your portfolio!

Hi Agi,
Sorry, I just saw this post!
I am a canon fiend. Thank you so much for liking my work, I put my heart and soul into it!
Do you photograph too?

Hi Tami,
yes I am on Flickr too, this is where I saw you first and then I followed your link to here.
I am here:

I am an amateur and I love portraiture.
I can tell you like what you do. I marked your link so I will follow you around.
I would never dream of becoming a pro, too much pressure to produce good things for the clients, and I would need to learn technically so much, I just don't feel I would ever know enough. But I know others who chucked in successful careers to do photo full-time. I would be very interested to learn about your experiences, if you have two minutes would you mind replying to my questions?
Are you self-taught? Do you use books to learn? At what point did you feel confident enough to say I could make a living from his? Did you invest anything significant to start up your studio, like buying lighting system and so on?
I would appreciate your response a lot.
Cheers Tami,
Agi

Hey Agi,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, again- I don't keep up on my blog, very well!

Thank for all the kind comments, honestly. I am self taught. The only book I could recommend is "Understanding Exposure" by Brian Peterson. I read it, about 4 times, until it clicked and I understood it. I also learned alot from my flickr groups- and I highly recommend checking out www.Ilovephotography.com. It is a wonderful childrens photography forum and I learned sooooo much there.

At this point I am not confident enough to make a living!! I haven't had an paying jobs as of yet, only portfolio building sessions! I am at the point now- after a year and a half of doing this to start charging. I put too much effort and time into this to do it for free anymore.

I shoot all natural light, but am looking into a simple light system to use for less than perfect days when I shoot inside.

Thank you for your encouragment!

Tami~

Hi Tami,
thank you so much for the response!
Incidentally not long ago I just purchased the book you recommended so I will definitely read it now.
Do you use Mac or PC? Mac is very expensive but I am outgrowing my capacity on my PC, and even with two external hard drives I need to look into changing my workflow slightly and buy a NAS device. A good one can run into £1,000.
Thanks for your response and the recommendations, I will visit the group! Good stuff to be busy with what you love!
Keep in touch,
Agi
